Brett Ratner (X-Men 3, Rush Hour) is in negotiations with Paramount to direct a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie. The studio is riding high on the financial success of the fourth Indiana Jones film, and have been developing the project for a while with Eddie Murphy attached to return to his most successful role as Detroit cop Axel Foley. Murphy went to the studio about a year ago with an idea for the film, and it was finally given the greenlight when the recent barrage of 80’s action remakes all posted good box-office numbers. The inclusion of Ratner is not a surprise, as this type of material is right up his alley, and should play to his strengths as a director. Still, it all depends on a script that is yet to be delivered. Can Eddie Murphy really be funny again? I have faith damn it - even if the horrific Norbit failed to raise so much as one chuckle from anyone.
