Ben Affleck has confirmed that the cameras are expected to roll on his standalone Batman film in the spring.
As well as starring, Affleck is also co-writing and directing the film which will see his Batman take on Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke.
“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” Affleck said to Variety. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
Affleck also addressed the challenge of balancing his vision for Batman with the versions that have come before him.
“I respect all of those [Batman] movies,” he said. “Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”
Warner Bros. has yet officially announce a release date for the film and it has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days. Greg Silverman, who recently departed the position of President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros. said that the film is slated to be released at some point in 2018.
Aquaman was recently moved from it's July 2018 release date to October 2018 so don't be too surprised if The Batman ends up filling Aquaman's original slot.
