Baz Luhrmann hasn't allowed the financial and critical failure of Australia to affect him, and has purchased the rights to classic F. Scott Fitzgerald story, The Great Gatsby. A film of the book was previously made with Robert Redford in the 1970's. It's unclear what direction Luhrmann plans to take his adaption in, but it's thought he will once again make a period piece - the novel is set in the roaring 20's. F. Scott Fitzgerald recently had another one of his works adapted for celluloid, as David Fincher directed and Brad Pitt starred in awards hopeful The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - which is a truly stunning piece of cinema. It's early doors yet for the fledging Baz Luhrmann epic, and a green light would heavily depend on the attraction of a star (that's not Nicole Kidman) and just how bloated the budget is.
