We have had countless versions of Batman over the years, but nobody has ever given Batgirl her own movie, even though she is considered one of the most popular superheroes in the world. For shame.
However it looks like that is about to change as, according to Variety, Joss Whedon is about to sign a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl pic for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe.
It will mean a jump from Marvel to DC for Whedon, having written and directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, although as we know he is no stranger to writing female superheroes, being the man who brought the world Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
There's very little information at the moment, there are currently no other producers attached but we do know that other characters from the world of Gotham will feature.
It will be interesting to see what take Whedon brings to the character, but we're imagining a lot of trademark Whedon humour throughout.
Question is, who could play our Batgirl?
