"I just don't have the balls"
It was a big night for entertainment last night. Not only was the Superbowl on, marked by an incredible halftime performance from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. The BAFTAs awards ceremony took place too.
There weren't too many surprises among the winners of the 2020 BAFTAs. But it was a night for great speeches.
One that people have been talking about in particular came from 'The Hustle' star Rebel Wilson. The comedic actress not only made fun of the flop that was 'Cats', which she co-starred in. She also took a brilliant dig at the best directors nominations saying: "I don't think I could do what they do. Honestly, I just don't have the balls."
Joaquin Phoenix took home the prize for best actor for 'Joker.' He took the opportunity to discuss the need for diversity in his acceptance speech.
Renee Zellweger, meanwhile, gave a lovely speech for her best actress win. She gave a wonderful shout-out to her 'Judy' co-star and fellow nominee, Irish actress Jessie Buckley, and dedicated her award to Judy Garland.
Laura Dern used her speech to commemorate her mother, actress Diane Ladd, who won the BAFTA for Best supporting Actress herself for the Martin Scorsese movie 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.'
Margot Robbie accepted Brad Pitt's award win for best supporting actor for 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', on his behalf. Reading Pitt's words, Robbie joked, "Hey Britain. Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club. Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement."
Another few speeches that got a big reception on the night were Taika Waititi's and Michael Ward's.
