It's been a long time coming, but now there's finally something official on it - Bad Boys 3 is officially slated for June 2nd, 2017.

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are both scheduled to return, however directing duties this time around will be handled by Joe Carnahan, director of the underrated / under-watched Stretch and the nowhere-near-as-bad-as-people-remember A-Team reboot. Carnahan also directed the Liam Neeson adventure thriller, The Grey, and is the executive producer on the hit TV series, The Blacklist.

It's not clear why Michael Bay has stepped from the series he created with Bad Boys; maybe he's too busy destroying large urban areas with Transformers. As to what'll happen this time around, details are sketchy at best.

Joe Carnahan is well capable of directing action-comedies and he'll undoubtedly have a few ideas of how to bring Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett into the modern age. Don't forget that Bad Boys was released all the way back in 1995 and the follow-up didn't happen until 2003, making it fourteen years to Bad Boys 3.

Let's hope Reggie makes a cameo of some description in Bad Boys 3.
