"This family is our fortress."
Ah, now we remember why the first film was so popular - it all looks so visually stunning.
We've got our first glimpse at the upcoming James Cameron sequel film, and it sure does look mighty pretty. 20th Century Studios have this afternoon released our very first look at 'Avatar: The Way of Water' by releasing the film's teaser trailer.
Showing off what is expected to be an epic return to the world of Pandora, 'Avatar 2' is set more than a decade after the events of the first film in the franchise, which was released in 2009.
Part one of an ambitiously planned four-movie sequel plan, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' begins to: "Tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure."
With a sub-title such as that, and a trailer delivering on the promised aquatic setting, it seems there will be new obstacles for the Na'vi and their alien world to overcome, presumedly all to do with sea life - sharing parallels between our own Earth and this fictional Pandora.
Directed by James Cameron, the first of four sequels sees the original cast of Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder and Giovanni Ribisi return. The additional cast has been further boosted with the inclusion of Kate Winslet, Jemaine Clement, Cliff Curtis and Edie Falco.
Here's the 'Avatar: The Way of Water' trailer.
Filmed in New Zealand, the sequel will be the first Cameron-directed film since the first 'Avatar'. With each subsequent sequel having a release date of 2024, 2026, 2028 attached, it feels like we've entered the decade of the 'Avatar' takeover. But... will the sequels be able to dominate the box office like the franchise's initial release?
'Avatar: The Way of Water' hits cinemas this December.
