The fourth instalment in the Asterix franchise, titled, Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia will film scenes on location in Ireland this summer, reports IFTN.ie
The film has a massive budget of €50 million, and will star Laurent Tirard (Little Nicholas), Edouard Baer (Molière) and Gerard Depardieu (Cyrano de Bergerac). It will be shot in French, in a probable first for the hardworking Irish film crews, who will be delighted at another major motion picture shooting on these shores - especially one with money to spend.
Naoise Barry Film Commissioner at the Irish Film Board commented to IFTN "Filmmakers like working in Ireland because we have a wide variety of urban and rural film locations within a very small geographic area." Makes sense, he added "In London, Paris or New York you need to travel for 6 hours if you want to shoot rural and urban settings in the same day." Great news for the local economy. The film will shoot in Co. Wicklow’s Brittas Bay, Childers Wood and Louth’s Listoke Gardens.
