In some truly baffling news, American Psycho, the excellent adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis' satirical novel, is to be remade, reports Variety.

Whether or not you'd call it a new adaptation of the book or a remake of the ace Christian Bale starrer is up to debate. Regardless, music video and commercials director Noble Jones has penned a script that apparently has Patrick Bateman mulling around a modern day New York - the book and original movie are set in the 80s. Jones has never directed a feature film before, but did some second unit work on The Social Network. He also wrote the script that got funding studio Lionsgate excited about the project - hence this news.

The budget is described as "low" but how low is anyone's guess. The last film didn't exactly have a blockbuster budget and was shot in Toronto - doubling for Manhattan. Still a great movie featuring an incredible Christian Bale performance, it really doesn’t need a remake; that said Jones could surprise us all.
