Alllrighty then...
When you think of Jim Carrey in the '90s, there's maybe two movies that stick out in your mind. One would 'Dumb & Dumber', the other has to be 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'.
Sure, 'The Mask' could be in there, but 'Ace Ventura' was the movie that launched Jim Carrey into the public consciousness and 25 years on, it seems there's enough of an interest in it to keep it going for a third movie.
WGTC is reporting that a third 'Ace Ventura' is in the very early stages of development, with Morgan Creek Productions - the production company behind the first two movies - confirming that they're definitely interested in making it happening.
"If Jim Carrey is in, we’re in. We’ll take him any way we can get him. This is a chance to honor the nostalgia of the original films, but also introduce a whole new audience to the franchise," a publicist for Morgan Creek told WGTC.
It's hard to know precisely if this is just fishing for Jim Carrey's involvement or if it's actually going to happen. Seeing as how the trailer for 'Sonic The Hedgehog' seems to show of Carrey back in loopy, zany form, going back to 'Ace Ventura' a quarter century later might just work.
Of course, the other part of this is that sequels in comedy almost never work. You only need to look at 'Anchorman 2', 'Zoolander 2', 'Dumb & Dumberer To', 'Airplane! 2', or 'Caddyshack 2' to know that it just never, ever seems to happen.
Plus, can filmmakers of today even hope to recapture the magic of a scene like this? Absolutely not.
