One of this summer's biggest and most anticipated releases 300: The Rise Of Xerxes has been pushed back from its August release date to March 2014. The sequel to the 2006 megahit was high up on everyone's radar, particularly because the movie was due to come out in less than three months and we haven't seen so much as a teaser trailer for it yet. Warner Bros are yet to release a statement as to why the movie has been delayed, but another of their movies - upcoming Tom Cruise sci-fi actioner All You Need Is Kill - has also been pushed back, from March 2014 to June 2014.
Clearly the reason All You Need Is Kill has been delayed is because Warners don't want two of their own blockbusters going head to head at the box office, and the fact that they're pushing All You Need To Kill into the summer competition with the likes of The Amazing Spiderman 2, X-Men: Days Of Future Past and the Godzilla reboot means they have a good feeling for Cruise's next flick.
But 300: The Rise Of Xerxes might be a different story. Last summer we had two similar situations, with G.I. Joe: Retaliation pushed back several months for reshoots following a reportedly disastrous test screening, and even with all the extra work, the second outing for Joes has already proved to be this year's most forgettable action film. Then there was Warner's own Great Gatsby, pushed back from last year's Oscar season into the middle of this summer's blockbusters. Some figured it to be a ballsy move, a clear indication of their faith in Baz Luhrmann's epic. While entertainment.ie are going to reserve judgement until we see it with our own two eyes, the current Rotten Tomatoes score of 44% doesn't bode particularly well.
