The man behind Independence Day and 2012 director Roland Emmerich has been offered the directing gig of the 1970s Atari game Asteroids, according to Vulture.
The game saw the player taking commend of a ship firing on asteroids that threaten to destroy it. The story of the film is apparently set after the destruction of Earth. "The remnants of human civilization are now living on far-flung colonies within an asteroid belt alongside aliens." Jesus, they got that from a little block shooting at other weird shaped things?
Emmerich has not agreed to direct yet, but this would appear to be straight up his alley.
