Sixteen years ago last month, the PlayStation 2 launched to huge promotion and acclaim before production was discontinued in 2012.
Today, however, marks the last vestige of the PlayStation 2 as the final online server for Final Fantasy XI (or Final Fantasy Online) was shut down. The MMO game, which was one of the first of its kind for consoles, was a huge success for SquareEnix and PlayStation and enjoyed a huge following online since the game's release in 2002.
Final Fantasy Online was the last server for PlayStation 2, which now means that the console is effectively dead after sixteen years in service and 115 million units sold - officially the best-selling console of all time.
