It turns out Russia not only won the Cold War but went on to control the world. Or did they? That's the question Singularity asks. It's a game that plays with the concept of time travel and rewriting history and sees our - American - hero tasked with setting the history books straight.
Singularity is an on the rails shooter with the usual blend of hardened soldiers, creepy monsters, triggered events and challenging bosses. About an hour in the soldier dons a Time Manipulation Device (TMD) that can accelerate or reverse time. Come across a wrecked stair case or Russian soldier? No problem. The device can revert the ruins to its former glory and accelerate the natural aging process of the soldier towards an explosive, and sticky, end.
TMDs aside there's nothing here that shooters haven't seen or shot at before and even the graphics look decidedly old-school. However, what's in the game is enjoyable, well paced and has just enough variety to keep the player interested. Singularity also features a variety of multiplayer modes and the package should placate shooter fans until the raft of triple AAA titles are released this Autumn.
