New figures released today in a report by Bloomberg suggest that the gaming app is now in freefall.
The report suggests that enthusiasm for Pokemon GO has well and truly petered out, with a drop of close to 15,000,000 players between online playing between July and August. According to figures gathered by various sources, Pokemon GO had just over 45,000,000 players for the month of july, however August now has seen that figure dropped to 30,000,000 worldwide.
This comes as Pokemon GO has all but completed its worldwide rollout and new updates of the game have swept away tracking services and cheaters from the service. Google Trends also casts doubt over Pokemon GO's long-term viability, as the figures appear to be going in a downward trend. The only people outside of Niantic Labs who are happy about the news are Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram, who saw a drop in usage hours as Pokemon GO began to gain in popularity.
Niantic Labs, however, are still positive about the game and are continuing to issue updates on the game with regularity. It's been revealed that Player Vs. Player battles and trading will soon be released in an update and specific landmarks, i.e. McDonalds, will be turned into PokeGyms to attract businesses and brands to the app.
The resurgence in popularity of both Pokemon and Nintendo show the beleaguered company's shares almost triple in price in the space of a few weeks, however they now appear to have returned to pre-Pokemon GO levels. Nevertheless, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are still working towards new projects, such as Pokemon Sun And Moon and a live-action Pokemon movie.
So, the question is, are you still playing Pokemon GO? Have you given up on it? If so, why? Let us know in the comments!
