Werner Herzog's 'Untitled Goose Game', for example?
With the commercial success of 'Sonic The Hedgehog' and 'Pokemon Detective Pikachu', no doubt you're going to see a glut of videogame adaptations in the coming years.
'Uncharted', for example, is finally going into production (well, maybe) and there's been talk for years of a 'Metal Gear Solid' movie too. Simply put, there are years upon years of potential ideas and given how a new generation of directors are growing up with a familiarity of gaming, it's not such a crazy idea anymore.
With that in mind, people in Twitter have been dream-casting games (heh) with directors and casts to go along with it.
Here are a few of the suggestions so far.

I’d pay good money to see an Aardman Animation film of Banjo-Kazooie https://t.co/Pi4L2qzO48 pic.twitter.com/qcIg2NV6Lk

You could very easily see somebody like 'The Raid' director Gareth Evans adapt 'Street Fighter', or even 'Mr. Robot' creator Sam Esmail try his hand at something like 'Heavy Rain'. Really, what makes it work is whether or not the script and the talent is there to adapt it.
So often is the case that directors and screenwriters simply try to graft the characters into another story instead of highlighting and adapting what makes the source material so exciting and compelling the first place. Not only that, you have a case now where people not only have so much choice, but that games themselves are rapidly bridging the gap between them and movies.
So, over to you - what game and director would pair up with what cast?
