When we talk about crossover events, it's usually reserved to the likes of Avengers: Infinity War or that episode of Murder She Wrote where Magnum PI turned up to help Jessica Fletcher solve a case.

In the case of gaming, the range of intellectual properties and rights between them means it's unlikely - not impossible, but unlikely - to see well-known characters cross over into other games. Kingdom Hearts, however, broke the mould as it featured not only recognisable characters from gaming like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII meet and interact with Donald Duck and Goofy.

It was crazy stuff at the time, but the series became a smash hit and spawned dozens of remixes, remakes, a sequel and - now, at long last - a threequel. Announced yesterday evening on the official Kingdom Hearts Facebook page, the game is confirmed to appear on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in the hopefully not-too-distant future.

Details on the plot are sketchy, but one thing that's been touted so far is - and this is really going to take some getting used to it - Attraction Flow attacks by the characters in the game. What's that, you ask? Well, imagine Space Mountain - but as a super-powered attack by a videogame character. That.

So, good luck with visualising that. The game's been in development since 2013, and the acquisition of Lucasfilm has happened between now and then - but don't expect to see any characters from Star Wars turning up here as Disney / Lucasfilm worked out an exclusivity deal with EA to have its game made and distributed by them.
