Canadian developers Motive are bringing Tony Stark to consoles
Iron Man has become one of the most recognisable characters in all of pop culture thanks to Robert Downey Jr's portrayal of the superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now the character is getting an all-new game from EA.
The as-yet untitled Iron Man game will be developed by Canadian developers Motive, who are currently hard at work on a remake of the 2008 horror game 'Dead Space'.
The game will be a single-player, third-person affair, with the game belonging to the action-adventure genre.
Fans of last year's surprisingly great 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' game will be glad to hear the games producer Olivier Proulx will serve as a lead on the project, which is an indication of the direction the game is heading in.
“It’s an honour and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today,” said Proulx.
"We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”
The game boasts some serious firepower on the production end, with Ian Frazier who served as lead designer on cult classic 'Kingdoms of Amalur', Maëlenn Lumineau, who produced numerous titles in the 'Assassins Creed' series on board to produce the game.
A statement from EA read "developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man."
The game is currently in the pre-production stage, with Motive putting the finishing touches on the 'Dead Space' remake that is due out in January, but EA say more details will be shared as production on the game progresses.
Iron Man is no stranger to the world of video games, with the Robert Downey Jr films receiving mediocre tie-in games, and the character features in Square Enix's live service 'Avengers' slog that was released in 2020.
