Today, Nintendo launched the first trailer and details for their latest console - the Nintendo Switch, formerly known as NX.

In a three-minute trailer, we saw a number of interesting features - including a tablet, a dock and what appears to be Skyrim ready-made for the console. We also saw a number of gadgets for it and the ability to take the game with you, well, anywhere.

Let's dive in.

IT'S A DOCK AND IT'S A PAD

As best as we can tell from the trailer and the official release, the Switch has a dock system that's not dissimilar to the Wii U's dock. The Switch's dock plugs into the TV and you use it as a regular console with a nice big controller to work with. However, if you feel the need to move around with it, you can remove the Switch from its dock and turn the nice big controller into two smaller controllers which attach to the side of the Switch.

THEY'RE NOT CONTROLLERS, THEY'RE JOY-CONS

Presumably that's a portmanteau of joystick and controller. The JoyCons can be used in one hand or they can be used by two players in a multiplayer scenario. More people, more Joycons. As well as this, players can bring their Switches together to "enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition." Does this mean that Switch works off a closed Bluetooth system? Hard to say, but it seems the most likely.

GAMECARDS OF HUMANITY

This is an interesting one, to say the least. As we mentioned, the Switch looks and feels like a gamepad with a spiffy controller - which means that there's no space for a disk drive or anything, right? Right. Again, going off what we're seeing from the official releases and statements, it appears that games now come on a small gamecard that looks like a slightly old SimCard. Without specific technical specifications, it's hard to say whether these gamecards work as the entire memory of the game or if they're memory cards.

AND...

You've also got Nintendo churning out games as well. The trailer saw Breath Of The Wild feature heavily, not to mention what looked like Skyrim as well.

NO MONEY, NO FUNNY

Right now, there's no word on how much the Switch will cost. That's more than a little telling, to be honest. The most likely reason for that is that they want people to get excited by all the new features and then hit them with the cost. Our guess? Probably around the €250 to €300 mark. We'll know more when it's released in March of next year.

So, that's all we know so far. Did we miss anything? What do you make of it? Let us know what you think in the comments!
