Rockstar didn't Forget About Dre
The Good Doctor is making his way to 'Grand Theft Auto Online', and is bringing single-player content with him.
After long-time collaborator Snoop Dogg told Rolling Stone in October that Dre was working on music for a 'Grand Theft Auto' game speculation went into overdrive, and now we have an answer.
"The Contract' is single-player DLC for 'Grand Theft Auto Online' and players will be tasked with tracking down a smartphone belonging to the iconic rapper that contains new music.
The DLC sees Franklin, after the events of 'Grand Theft Auto 5', has founded a new “celebrity solutions agency” in Los Santos, a service that caters to Vinewood’s rich and powerful.
With the help of DJ Pooh, Franklin and his mate Lamar Davis get connected with Dr. Dre in what Rockstar are calling “a wild and hilarious ride through Los Santos.”
Players will head “from the mean streets of Franklin’s old neighbourhood to the hottest parties in the city, from debaucherous mansions to the offices of the FIB and everywhere in between as you join Franklin, expert hacker Imani, Chop the Dog, and crew to secure Dr. Dre’s precious tracks and return them to their rightful owner,” Rockstar said in an official announcement Wednesday.
"Grand Theft Auto Online’s The Contract will arrive December 15th, and will bring with it “an eclectic new radio station from some very special guest hosts, huge first-of-their-kind updates to existing radio stations including a ton of new and unreleased exclusive tracks from Dr. Dre and a heavy-hitting line-up of artists,” Rockstar said.
Dr. Dre was established in the 'Grand Theft Auto' universe, making a cameo appearance in the Cayo Perico heist that was released last December, and mentions having a mobile phone belonging to him stolen.
Christmas has come early for fans of 'Grand Theft Auto' and Doctor Dre's music as this DLC is the first sign of any new single-player content for 'Grand Theft Auto 5' since 2013, and represents Doctor Dre's first new music since his 2015 album 'Compton'.
Celebrities making an appearance in 'Grand Theft Auto' 5 is fairly common, as The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas is the host of an alternative music station, as does R&B star Frank Ocean.
With news of this new DLC, perhaps Rockstar have proved they are listening to fans who have been asking for new single-player content for 'Grand Theft Auto 5' for years?
