What is there left to say about The Last Of Us at this point? Anyone who has played has probably spewed hyperbolic compliments about it’s probably the best game that they’ve ever played, and potentially the best game that’s ever been made.
It’s managed to win just about every single game award that there is possibly to win, with one of the highest rated critic scores given to any game of recent times. To anyone who hasn’t played it, let us tell you this: no matter how built up in your head you think this game is, no matter how high the standards you’ve set and how unreachable you think they might be, you’re wrong. The Last Of Us really is THAT good.
With the Remastered edition now bringing the game to the Playstation 4, the stunning visuals of the original are now even better, as they run at 1080p and 60 frames per second, as well as a few other technical upgrades, and all bundled in with the extra downloadable content that was released separately on the Playstation 3 version, including the multi-player map 'Abandonded Territories' and 'Reclaimed Territories', as well as the fantastic single player prequel story Left Behind.
For anyone completely out of the know, you play as Joel, one of the survivors of a viral-based apocalypse which has turned most of the world’s population into “Clickers”, a flora-mutation that mutates humans into blind but vicious creatures. It’s up to you to protect Ellie and bring her to a medical compound in another part of America, as she may be the key to unlocking a cure to the virus.
Ammunition, supplies and hope is running low, as the other survivors turn to desperation to survive, and the burgeoning friendship between Joel and Ellie is all the hope you’ll be exposed to over the game’s beautiful but devastating storyline. At times it's nerve-shreddingly tense (those Clickers are some of the creepiest, scariest monsters to have been created in some time, and their one-touch kill rule keeps you constantly on edge), while every now and then you’ll forget you’re playing a game and just take in the vast, epic gorgeousness that the developers have presented to us.
The Last Of Us: Remastered simply nails home the point that this truly is one of the best games ever made. A must-buy for newbies to the story, as well as fans of the PS3 original looking to revisit an absolute classic.
