It... doesn't really work, but still, points for effort.
It's a law universally understood that the more you earn in your life, the less ability you have to spend that money on videogames.
Think about it - when you were younger, you'd most likely save up for videogames and you had all this free time to play them with. Now, in your twenties, thirties and forties, it's the exact opposite - you've got money, but no free time. Not only that, getting older means your metabolism slows down, which means you can't eat crap like a teenager or you'll become unhealthy and so on.
But what if there was a way to solve the issue of using your free time for exercise and getting to play videogames? That's exactly YouTuber Allen Pan set out to do with his 'Death Stranding' low-budget VR treadmill / walking simulator.
Essentially, Allen connected a treadmill to a bunch of relays, and then rigged it to a PS4 controller which, in turn, activated the signal for walking and running in 'Death Stranding'. The result? A ridiculously convoluted way of playing a game that's already pretty complex to begin with.
Needless to say, Allen's rig was prone to some malfunctions and it's not as if there isn't already purpose-made VR rigs out there. Granted, they usually can run upwards of five and ten grand, so making one he found out of stuff lying around the house and with a bit of technological know-how is damn impressive stuff.
Here's the video explaining how Allen managed to pull it all off.
