"Mission failed, we'll get 'em next time."
Sure, this pandemic has got people bored out of their minds.
We're all desperate for something different to break the monotony, whether it's getting into needlework, taking up a new hobby, listening to podcasts, or even getting back into gaming. But there's a special kind of bored where you're willing to put yourself in danger just to get some kind of entertainment.
A 36-year old escaped prisoner was recaptured by West Midlands Police while he was trying to buy a copy of 'Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War'. Clint Butler was spotted by police on January 13th of this year after he'd managed to escape Spring Hill Prison in November of last year.
Per the official police report, Butler and his friend swiftly made a detour when they saw police approaching them, who asked them what they were doing out and about during a lockdown. "I’ve come to get the new 'Call of Duty' game because I can’t sit around in lockdown," Butler reportedly told police.
At this point, Butler attacked the police and tried to escape again, only to be caught and sentenced to a further 13 months in prison for the original escape, another 6 months for attacking the police, and presumably he'll have to finish out his 17-year prison sentence for various other crimes.
Sadly for Butler, reviews for 'Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War' have been middling at best. Eurogamer only rated the game 3 out of 5, while others have described it as a bloated mess of a game. Indeed, 'Call of Duty' has suffered from a certain amount of "annualisation" where each game is only a mild update of the one that preceded it.
It's also worth noting that you can buy 'Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War' digitally through the PS Store and never have to leave your house.
