Did you ever want to play a shooter about a 26th century rogue space marine mercenary cyborgs with a drinking problem and a machismo attitude to match? Then you'll enjoy Bulletstorm. The game comes from the same people behind Gears of Wars and it oozes testosterone out of its pimply pores.

The in-game banter between our heroes revolves around whose got the biggest gun and or male appendage. There's even homoerotic jokes to boot. The guns and energy weapons are suitably overpowered and are packed with alternate fire modes which let you kill the enemies in increasingly bizarre, and sometimes satisfying ways. Yes, this is a game that lets you impale enemies on spikes and rewards you for kicking people in the teeth. Feel proud to know you're playing game lambasted by Fox News.

Depending on your point of view, there's unfortunately no cover system in an otherwise good looking and sounding game and the missions are the usual set of go here, go there, kill them all. More disappointing is the damp squib that is multiplayer. There's a co-operative online or anarchy mode but it's not replacement for team death-match.

Marcus Fenix wouldn't stand for it.
