Highly-anticipated sequel has been pushed until 2023 and fans are mixed
Good news: we've gotten new footage of 'Breath Of The Wild 2'.
The bad news? The game won't come out until 2023.
The news was announced this afternoon in an official video from Nintendo which confirmed the game is active development, but the game won't release until 2023.
In a video update, series producer, Eiji Aonuma said the team decided to extend the development time.
Aonuma said in order to make the experience "something special," the team is continuing to "work diligently" on the game.
Fans got a small taste of what to expect, with the eye-catching image from the video depicting Link's Master Sword being broken.
Fans will have to wait another year to figure out what happened to the sword, and social media is already abuzz.
Fans are split on the news, with the Shigeru Miyamoto quote "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad," being invoked by users.
Other users welcome the delay as 2022 has already seen some blockbuster releases such as 'Elden Ring' and the news gives them time to give the FromSoftware their full attention.
The original 'Breath Of The Wild' was a smash hit for Nintendo, and the game is widely regarded as one of the most influential games of the last decade.
Since launching in March 2017, critics and fans alike have identified the game as having a profound effect on the gaming industry for it's innovative gameplay.
The sequel has been eagerly anticipated for years, but now the game is aiming for a Spring 2023 release date, and will surely serve as the swansong for Nintendo's flagship Switch console.
Fans have been clamouring for a sequel ever for years, and some haven't taken news of the delay well.
