'Wrath of the Druids' is on its way very soon.
Although many people hoped that it would land some stage this week, Ubisoft confirmed yesterday that 'Wrath of the Druids', the first expansion DLC for 'Assassin's Creed Valhalla', will be available from April 29th.
The DLC, which will cost players €24.99 as a standalone purchase or as part of the season pass for 'Assassin's Creed Valhalla', sees players sailing to Ireland to make contact with a druidic cult called the Children of Danu. Details are light on where exactly in Ireland you'll be able to go, but it's understood that the DLC will take inspiration from Irish mythology and folklore, not to mention the vast history of Viking settlement in Ireland.
You'll also have to fight your way "through haunted forests and dazzling landscapes while gaining influence among Gaelic kings," according to the official release. Does that mean the likes of Brian Boru or the Battle of Clontarf will play a role in the story?
It's quite possible, really. From about 800 onwards, Ireland was regularly visited and, yes, raided by Vikings. In fact, Dublin, as we know it today, was conquered by Vikings in 837 and was used as a launchpad for further raids into the country, reaching as far as Laois and Tipperary.
With the exception of sports games and the likes of 'Microsoft Flight Simulator', this expansion pack is the first game in several years to be set in Ireland. In fact, there are only a handful of games that have Ireland as a playable location. For example, 'Syphon Filter 3' on the PlayStation 2 had a mission set in Dublin, while the horror RPG game 'Clive Barker's Undying' on the PC was also set in Ireland. The classic point-and-click adventure game, 'Broken Sword', had one of its sequels set in Ireland too.
Every day's a school day around here, folks.
