The 63rd Wexford Festival Opera will take place this year from October 22nd - November 2nd.
One of the programme highlights of this year’s Festival is the European premiere of Silent Night by Kevin Puts (b. 1972), sung in English, French, German, Italian and Latin. First commissioned by the Minnesota Opera, it was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music in 2012. The opera’s libretto by Mark Campbell is based on the 2005 film Joyeux Noël and tells the story of the short-lived and spontaneous Christmas truce in 1914 between enemy combatants.
This year’s main stage operas will also feature Don Bucefalo by Antonio Cagnoni (1828–1896) and Salomé by Antoine Mariotte (1875–1944).
We also have miniature masterpieces by Holst, Puccini, Rossini, Gilbert & Sullivan and more.
Other Festival events include a Gala concert, Lectures, Lunchtime Recitals and more!
