Weaving the Cry is a journey through a dark wave toward a threshold that is both an end and a beginning. It explores our capacity for survival inside the rituals of living and dying. This contemporary re-imagining of Synge’s Riders to the Sea exposes a complex and eternal bond between mother and son concentrated in the relationship between Mauyra, her missing son Michael, and Bartley, her only remaining son of six.

With Michael gone and Bartley headed for another dangerous sea crossing, the inevitable and its repercussions must once again be reconciled by those left behind, a mother and her two daughters.

Weaving the Cry mixes theatre with traditional songs from Ireland and Galicia to create unique theatrical experience, a stark and daring re-imagining of one of the greatest dramatic works from the Irish literary canon.
