The 2010 Waterford International Music Festival programme will consist of the city’s fiftieth Waterford International Festival of Light Opera, a Gospel Festival, a High School Music Festival, a Fringe Festival and a number of other special music events all culminating in a fabulous ‘Oscar style’ finale Gala evening hosted by RTE’s Maura Derrane.

A free screening of the children’s musical film ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ will take place at 11am and 2pm on Saturday November 6 and the ever popular ‘High School Musical’ will be screened on Saturday, November 13 at 11am and 2pm both at The Granary.

A collection of memorabilia of the fifty years of the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera has been collected and currated and will be placed on public display from October 28 at 6.30pm Christchurch Cathedral, this impressive fifty year showcase is free for public viewing until November 3 – from November 4 a limited exhibition of this collection will feature at The Theatre Royal vestibule until the end of the Waterford International Festival of Music. The collection includes some of Waterford’s musical greats many of whom have gone on to achieve West End fame.

A series of free lunchtime concerts will take place as part of the Waterford Fringe Festival; these concerts will take place in multiple venues across the city from November 2 to 13.

Grand Opera fans are in for a treat as a free surprise opera screening will take place at Garter Lane Theatre on Thursday, November 11 at 8pm. The screening will feature a large cast and orchestra, spectacular designs and stage effects and a plot with many twists and turns.
