Barretstown marked their 20th anniversary with the release of their version of Bruce Springsteen's Dream Baby Dream. The performance, recorded at Barretstown on February 8th, features dozens of current and former Barretstown campers led by Joyce Murphy, the Christ Church Cathedral Girls Choir and a number of other well-known musicians including Tom Dunne, Mundy and Steve Wall.
Barretstown have been helping sick children and their families for the last twenty years. The organisation offers therapeutic recreation or 'serious fun' for over 27,000 campers since its foundation by the actor Paul Newman in 1994. Barretstown provides residential camps and Hospital Outreach services for children undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses, and their families. While there is an average of three children diagnosed with a childhood cancer each week, the five year survival rate for these children is now over 80%.
Speaking about the song, CEO Dee Ahearne said, 'This song captures the resilience and optimism that our campers and their families have shown in the 20 years since we opened our doors, and we are very proud of what they have done'.
