The Lesson by Eugene Ionesco
Here, words commit untold crimes!
The Lesson is an iconic piece of theatre on subjugation and cruelty through language.
A timid professor uses the meaning he assigns to words to establish tyrannical dominance over an eager pupil. Ionesco employs this ridiculous authoritarian character to expose the false worship of language. The timeless themes explored in The Lesson are perhaps even more relevant in today’s world than at the time of it's debut in Paris 1951. As The Observer says 'Ionesco leads us by fantastic paths, back to theatrical basics’.

The Agni Acting Studio Conservatory (AAS) was inspired by the late Deirdre O’Connell of the Focus Theatre and The Actors Studio. Hope Brown, a former student of O’Connell, founded Agni Acting Studio and its doors opened June 2010. Continuing in Deirdre O’Connell’s footsteps Hope has been building an internationally recognized acting studio where excellence is the trademark – a centre that celebrates the performing arts here in Dublin’s City Center.
