Did you know that the first Seachtain na Gaeilge ('Irish Language Week') was held in 1902? So that would explain why the festival runs for a little bit longer than two weeks.
The purpose of the festival is to give everyone a chance to embrace the Irish language no matter what level they are at. Even if you have only a cúpla focal there'll be something on the nationwide calender of events for you to enjoy.
