Richard O'Brien's wacky, weird and outrageously fun musical is currently showing at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre until Saturday 6th July.
I would like to preface this review by saying that going in to see this performance of The Rocky Horror Show at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I had never seen the movie. I knew absolutely nothing about the musical. The only thing I did know, was the infamous song "The Time Warp". I mean, I've not been living under a rock or anything. But I've clearly had my head in clouds or something because I was completely oblivious to the absolutely huge following this show has. Shame on me.
Richard O'Brien's ROCKY HORROR SHOW opens TONIGHT at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, and we are shivering with anticipation!

Written by Richard O'Brien, The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of a cross-dressing alien, Frank-N-Further, from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania and his frenzied attempt to make his ideal man for his own pleasures. The story begins with straight-laced Brad and his fuddy-duddy fiancé Janet. While on their way to visit their old science teacher Dr Scott, their car breaks down. Of course, it breaks down on a dark windy road in the middle of nowhere. Their only option is to knock on the door of a creepy looking castle and ask for help, and so the mayhem begins, as we meet Frank-N-Further and his kooky gang.
From the opening scenes, I could tell that this was going to be a fun one. The audience was quick to get involved with the production, gleefully chiming in with witty responses and well-timed replies to the cast. In unison, I might add. Clearly, I was one of few seeing it for the first time!
Dr Frank-N-Furter is played by former Blue boy band singer Duncan James. Duncan is pretty much unrecognisable! His gloriously camp and sexy performance was electrifying to watch and, for me, was the highlight of the whole show.
I think this musical will always be a bit like marmite - you'll either love it or you'll hate it. I personally loved it! It's extremely fast paced, with the production whipping from number to number, leaving you with very little time to question what on earth you're watching.
The show is sharp, witty and absolutely filthy. In a brilliant way. It's on at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre until Saturday 6th July. Check out tickets here.
