"A line is like a story waiting to unravel" - Niamh Jackman
Outside the Lines is an exhibition commissioned by the Arts Office of Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council and curated by Ashleigh Downey and Síle O'Sullivan. It examines the diverse drawing practices of nine artists who are originally from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown or who are now living or working in the area.
The exhibition coincides with the Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival and will be held in the concourse of County Hall , one of the main venues for the Festival. Outside the Lines will be a unique and exciting opportunity for the public to see not only the best in contemporary drawing practice but the new directions that locally based artists are taking in developing this artistic genre. Work in the exhibition includes digital drawing, sculpture and 3D installation.
Through this exhibition we hope to inspire and delight the audience, broadening their idea of what a drawing can be and showcase the range of visual arts practice associated with this County. Kenneth Redmond, dlr Arts Officer.
What has been a unique and exciting opportunity for us as curators is personally engaging with all of the artists in their studio spaces and seeing at first hand the drawing processes they are engaged in. The experience has highlighted to us the importance of drawing for many contemporary artists and we hope the exhibition offers some insight into the rich and varied range of drawing activity that is happening in the County. Curators Ashleigh Downey and Síle O'Sullivan
Outside the Lines will be accompanied by a series of artist's talks, workshops and related activities. It's the first in a new series of visual arts exhibitions that dlr Arts Office have devised to give exposure and support to the work of the many visual artists living and working in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County.
