Séamus Ó Grianna – whose pen-name was ‘’Máire’ – was one of the country’s best-known and widely read writers for over fifty years. His prolific output included novels, short stories, essays, autobiography, and song. His famous Rann na Feirste is a potent celebration of his native place, its rich oral tradition and poetic speech. Tonight IMRAM presents a special celebration of his life and work. Niall Mac Eachmharcaigh (John Joe from Ros na Rún) will read extracts from his writing. Gearóidín (Neidí Frainc) Breathnach and Tony Mac Ruairí will sing his songs. Nollaig Mac Congáil will talk about Ó Grianna’s life. Featuring a special slide show evoking the people and landscapes of Rann na Feirste, this event is curated by poet and broadcaster Cathal Póirtéir.
