The latest Movember campaign is titled Lockdown - Shave Down - Get Down

Men’s health charity Movember is launching a new initiative called Lockdown - Shave Down - Get Down. Its aim is to encourage healthy and open conversations around mental health.

This year, Movember is teaming up with a number of celebrities in their campaign. Ambassadors include TV broadcaster Darren Kennedy, rugby player Harry McNulty, stylist Lawson Mpame, Men’s Circle Facilitator Darragh Stewart and coach Pat Divily.

Lockdown - Shave Down - Get Down is a call to the public to sign up and join the movement. They're starting early this year and encouraging people to join them in shaving down on October 30th.

They're also calling for pre-kick-off donations.

Speaking about the campaign Darren Kennedy said: "I’ve long-time admired the incredible work of Movember. So naturally I’m very excited to be an ambassador for this year’s campaign. The pandemic has really challenged my own mental and physical health. And I know I’m not alone in feeling it.

"Our communal mental, emotional and physical health has taken a battering this year as a result. For me, throwing myself into the Irish Sea has been a real tonic - both mentally and physically. Anything that encourages a conversation, encourages guys who might be struggling to reach out for help or just have a chat with a mate can be a lifesaver."

Stylist Lawson Mpame added: "I am very honoured to be a Movember ambassador this year, Movember and the incredible guys who are part of this community helped me at a time when I needed it most and when I was at my lowest point in life. So it's truly amazing that I can do my part to help other men out there this year and help stop men dying young especially at the difficult time we are currently living in."

Movember Ireland Country Lead, Jack O’Connor said, "It’s been inspiring to see the enthusiasm and positivity around this year’s Movember campaign. Given the year we’ve had there’s a greater level of awareness for the importance of the work we do. It’s amazing to have the support of our ambassadors, and of all the MoBros and MoSisters in Ireland.

"I’d ask anyone reading this to get behind the campaign in any way they can, because whatever you grow or however you Mo will save a bro, and this year it will be the most important Mo you ever grow."
