International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival: 6th - 19th May 2013
The Dublin Gay Theatre Festival is an annual event, celebrating contribution of gay people to theatre, past and present. The Festival was founded in 2004 to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Oscar Wilde, in his native city. With an emphasis on new or recent international and Irish works with a broadly gay theme or relevance, the Festival has grown to become the largest event of its type in the world. Read more.
Galway Early Music Festival: 9th - 12th May 2013
Which came first, words or music? A 'chicken and the egg' question that will be considered from many angles in the 2013 Galway Early Music Festival. Telling stories, expressing emotions and embodying the sacred, both vocal and instrumental music play a part. This interplay of words and music is the basis for our programme, 'Word Play'. Some areas to be highlighted include Bardic poetry and early Irish Harp; the baroque compositions of 17th century Rome featuring the unique instrument, the Lirone; music, art, and the dark side of fairy tales; trouvere songs; and more. Connemara Adventure Challege: 11th May 2013
This is Connemara at its best – trails, bog, rugged peaks and choppy green water. Connemara Adventure Challenge may not be the longest race on the calendar but it is a super training race for the more experienced adventure racer and an ideal tester race for the less experienced. Read more.
Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival: 16th - 19th May 2013
The 7th Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival returns to the north west after a one year break. Guth Gafa, The Magnificent Seventh, will take place in two key locations in 2013. The hub of the festival and the main screening venues will be in Malin Village on Inishowen Peninsula and a series of satellite screenings and film events will be held in Derry, in partnership with Derry-Londonderry City of Culture and The Irish Film Board.
