Billed as the first festival of the summer, the Drogheda Arts Festival will be celebrating its ten year anniversary in suitable, festive style.
A unique 12 hour sleep concert, a performance of the entire Bible in just two hours, a festival interview with the brilliant Deirdre O'Kane and a theatrical journey into the life and stories of one street in Drogheda are just some of the events that were announced today.
Others are a rehearsed reading performed by Declan Conlon and directed by Annabelle Comyn, a performance of Russian composer Alexander Raskatov’s monumental work for string quartet and bass voice and a concert by acclaimed singer/songwriter Lisa O'Neill.
On revealing the special programme of the events, the festival's chairperson Aoife Ruane said 'This year's expanded programme, celebrating the festival's first decade, not only impresses with its diversity and uniqueness, but also displays an ambition for the future of similar high quality small scale festivals.'
'Set against the North East's most important medieval town and hinterland, the festival engages strongly with its environment, heritage and people, and events include site specific theatre, visual art, traditional, classical and contemporary music, film, literature, spectacle, children and family events, highlighting the best of the indigenous arts and showcasing the most exciting and innovative practice from Ireland and abroad.'
Drogheda has been a popular destination for the May bank holiday weekend over the past ten years as festival guests can always expect an exciting mix of music, theatre, visual art, literature, film, and outdoor fun for the whole family.
