Wheel out the bikes!
Bond as a family and cycle the highways and byways of Ireland! There are several excellent bicycle trails around the country ranging from mountain trails to gentler level routes. There are lovely trails in Kilkenny, integrated with food, walks and craft trails under the Trail Kilkenny banner, (www.trailkilkenny.ie). The spin along the cycle way from Galway City to Spiddal is stunning and on a clear day you will see the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands on the horizon. Or make it a capital cycle in Dublin and experience the delights of the Phoenix Park on two wheels. Call into Dublin Zoo while you are there! (www.phoenixpark.ie).
Amuse yourself in a Museum
So how long have you been promising yourself to go to that special museum? Make a break of it and book a date now to explore some of Ireland’s rich past. There are some different and quirky museums. In the capital check out the Little Museum of Dublin, (stuffed with U2 memorabilia), and the mummified cat and mouse in Christ Church Cathedral Crypt, (www.visitdublin,ie); in Wicklow visit the enchanting Tara’s Palace Museum of Childhood in Powerscourt, Enniskerry, (www.taraspalace.ie); learn how farm life was in the 1800’s at the Museum of Country Life in the grounds of Turlough Park House in Castlebar, Co.
