According to The Independent, a 68-year-old man was arrested by Gardaí this morning following an incident in which Trinity's iconic front gates were heavily damaged by a car.

Per the Garda Press Office, a number of cars were damaged on Dame Street in the incident at around 6.30am this morning before the car continued onto college grounds and smashed into the front gates.

People on Twitter were first to spot and snap the damage.

 

The gates are now closed while college services assess the damage and begin repairs. The man involved in the incident was arrested and taken to Store St. Garda Station.
