It looks like Christmas season is officially here. Having stolen the reins from Coca-Cola's 'Holidays Are Coming' ads and other brands in recent years, John Lewis have become the staple of Christmas mood setting with their annual festive adverts. Following the same formula as before, once again we have a yet to break female pop songstress covering a tune in a slow wistful wintery tone. This year it's Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 'Power of Love' sung by Gabrielle Aplin, who warbles over what is supposed to be the magical journey of a snowman who goes on a mysterious quest, the point of it being revealed at the end. Except instead of being endearing, it's ever so slightly terrifying. Especially for anyone who's read Jo Nesbo's The Snowman.

It's probably trying to evoke memories of that other snowman, but seriously John Lewis. It's just creepy. Especially that look he gives the robin. There's murder in those coal eyes. And it's not a patch on last years ad, which still gets us all verklempt.
