This is pretty sad. A giraffe that was being transported to a farm in South Africa has died after it hit a motorway bridge.

The giraffe, which was paired with another, was being driven on the N1 Highway to Kameeldrift when it struck a bridge, killing the giraffe almost instantly.

Already, five witnesses have come forward and the South African SPCA are expected to launch a criminal investigation into the incident and the driver of the truck.

Meanwhile, the surviving giraffe has been renamed 'Lucky' and has been taken into protective custody.

A similar incident was depicted in the 2012's The Hangover III and drew considerable condemnation from animal rights activist group PETA and a number of other organisation.
