12 days of Meme-mas: December 2012
December well and truly belonged to one creature, and one meme alone. IKEA monkey swung into our hearts last month, and by God if it wasn't one of the greatest things ever to happen on the internet. We covered the story of the unquestionably adorable Darwin, who went on a little adventure in IKEA in the most stylish of sheepskin coats and just sent the internet into meltdown. The Margot Tenenbaum/Anna Wintour lookalike now resides safely in a sanctuary in Canada, where we can only imagine he is giving style advice to all his simian friends.
Honourable Mentions
Grumpy Cat: December also saw the rise of a star animal. Unfortunately, Tard the cat isn't exactly pleased by it. Well with a name like Tardar Sauce, no one's going to be exactly pleased with internet fame, but 'Grumpy Cat' was so visible displeased that we all went mad for him.There are too many notable examples of his grumpy greatness out there, but this is our favourite.
The Mayan Apocalypse: Every freaked about the end of the 12th Mayan b'ak'tun, which really just was a change of date, and look we're all still here. So if you're one of the few who went mad and built shelters and stockpiled non-perishables, maybe it's time to come out of your caves and set into the modern area with the rest of us. 2013, it's going to be great.
