The New Year is well and truly upon us and as January rolls around we know what you're thinking: How on earth are we ever going to go back to work/school/college? Don't worry though, it ain't all bad.

With the New Year comes brand new TV offerings, and even the return of some old telly favourites. Here are just 10 shows 2014 will be throwing straight at you over the next few weeks. Sure don't we all love a bit of escapism when we've got the January blues?

1. Sherlock - BBC One (January 1st)
If you haven't already set yourself up for the return of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman then you'd best do it quick sharp. The boys are back in London town tonight at 8pm and we know you want to know how the super sleuth survived that Reichenbach Fall...

2. The Bridge - BBC Four (January 4th)
Here we go again... Thirteen months after the events of the first season, a coastal tanker leaves the Öresund waterway and heads straight for the Øresund Bridge. When the coastguards board the ship, they discover there are no crew on board. Three Swedish and two Danish youths are also chained to the below deck. Saga Norén (Sofia Helin) of Malmö County Police is put in charge of the case and contacts Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia)... Nobody does drama like the Scandinavians. 3. Dancing on Ice - ITV (January 5th)
If you'd prefer to feast your eyes on a bit of Reality TV then you won't want to miss the last ever series of Dancing On Ice. Sam Attwater, Todd Carty, Gareth Gates, Bonnie Langford, Ray Quinn, Suzanne Shaw, Hayley Tamaddon and Beth Tweddle are among the 'slebs slipping and sliding in celebration of the series in a Champion of Champions style showdown while presenters Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley return to host.

4. The Voice of Ireland / The Voice UK - RTE One / BBC One (January 5th / January 11th)
The singing show that isn't (but kind of is just like) X Factor returns to both side of the Irish Sea in January with a few new faces. Dolores O'Riordan joins the judging panel on these here shores (we thought Jamelia had thrown in the towel but it appears Sharon Corr is the only one who actually left) while Kylie Minogue's spinning around (coat in hand, don't worry) in Jessie J's old chair and Kaiser Chief singer Ricky Wilson takes Danny O'Donoghue's spot. Will either show produce a superstar third time around? We'll have to wait and see...

5. Criminal Minds - Sky Living (January 6th)
The team return to a very different playing field in the aftermath of last season's shocking finale (here's a hint - somebody died) but before any decisions about their future can be made there’s a case in need of immediate attention: the discovery of two female bodies in Arizona, both shot in the heart and propped in a praying position. Initial evidence suggests the perpetrator had no connection with the victims, but definitely wanted their remains to be found, presenting the team with quite the conundrum.

6. Operation Transformation - RTE One (January 7th)
If you're feeling rather sluggish after the festive season then you're probably eager to see Operation Transformation back on the telly. Kathryn Thomas and co return for a seventh series with a brand new look. Joining Karl Henry and Dr. Eddie Murphy on the expert panel is Waterford based dietitian Aoife Hearne and GP Dr. Ciara Kelly who hails from Greystones in Co. Wicklow. And in another break from tradition, there are six leaders to choose from and they've selected the oldest ever leader in Operation Transformation history.

7. Grey's Anatomy - Sky Living / RTE Two (January 8th/January 14th)
Grey;s fans will be delighted to see Mer, Der and the gang back in action this month. Season 10 picks up where Season 9 left off as the gang struggle to cope in the aftermath of that devestating storm. A giant mudslide injures a group of first responders and citizens, causing the already shorthanded ER to spring into action. Meanwhile, Meredith is faced with a tough decision that will affect the life of a loved one, Callie is rocked by the reality of Arizona's infidelity, and Richard's life is in extreme danger.

8. Don't Tell The Bride - RTE Two (January 16th)
Another series jam packed with would-be wedding disasters, a mix of greatful and greedy brides, gormless and generous grooms, and more big day drama than you can shake a boquet at? Count us in lads. Count us in. Especially if there's more of this from lads like Martin:

9. Girls - Sky Atlantic (January 20th)
We're not quite sure what to expect (except a bit of tombstone twerking) when Girls returns to our TV screens for a third season but what we do know is that there'll be 12 episodes this time around. They're packing a whole lotta drama though, describing the relationships between Hannah and co as 'more volatile than ever'. We've got a feeling they'll be in for a bumpy ride so...

10. The Musketeers -  BBC One (Exact date and time TBC)
The Beeb's pulled together quite the cast for The Musketeers, an all new BBC One Drama inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s legendary characters. Skins star Luke Pasqualino is d’Artagnan, Tom Burke is Athos, Howard Charles is Porthos, Santiago Cabrera is Aramis and Hugo Speer is Captain Treville, and Peter Capaldi is Cardinal Richelieu. There's fightin', romance and a fair bit of drama. Sure how could you say no, eh?
