Viewer Reviews of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
Right Up there with X-Men 1 - foz_e_bearI thought I had lost interest in the X-Men movies, having loved the original and the sequel, I was so disapointed with part 3. And although I enjoyed Wolverine, it wasn't up to the same standard. I thought that was it game over! But no, not only has Vaughan made a very entertaining super-hero movie, which I think stands up to X-men 1, but he's also added a more ...
Better than I expected - SarahHaving seen the Wolverine prequel I have to admit I was a little aprehensive about X-Men First Class, however I was pleasently surprised. This was a fitting prequel to one of the worlds most famous super-hero franchises. X-Men First class was more faithful to the story threads seen in the first X-Men film, with Brian Singer's influence clearly evident. more ...
Xcellent (bad pun aside) - Fiona74I know I probably 'stand alone' or at least I'm in the minority when I say I have actually liked all the X Men movies so far, they always have good action and I like all the gifts the different characters have so I was really looking forward to this movie and it didn't disappoint. The film mainly succeeds due to the casting and the almost perfect balance more ...
A casual X-Fan reviews probably the best X-Men movie in the franchise. - JelloReviewsWhen I heard about this movie, I was a little skeptical. How could they do another X-Men when the last one (Wolverine: Origins) was highly disappointing (keeping it PG). Then I heard it was going to be directed by Matthew Vaughn (director of one of my favorite comic book movies Kick-Ass) so I became a bit more excited. I was never a huge X-Men fan and I more ...
An X Prequel - ging-grrI was dubious when I originally heard about this project but the strength of the cast did impress me and the performances of McAvoy and Fassbender were top class. It was easy to picture them as younger versions of the characters played so well by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in the previous movies in the franchise. Overall it was a very good prequel, more ...
Undoubtedly an Xmen film - AndyComic adaptions seem to have become a major force on the silver screen with so many new franchises arriving and old ones being rebooted. X-Men: First Class is definatly a reboot of the original (and mostly terrible) original series of Xmen films, featuring the insantly recognisable Xavier and Magneto (though Magneto only gets his code name half way more ...
Some Lessons Learned - MacdogThere's an invisible line that divides where kitsch can be cool and where it can just be plain cheesy. It's a line that's crossed many times over the course of this film especially whenever homage spills into unintentional camp. Telling the story of how Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr (later to become Professor X and Magneto) first met and became more ...
X hits the spot! - tetsujin1979The film charts the first meeting and development of the friendship and later rivalry between Professor Xavier and Magneto against the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis. With a few excellently used cameos, and a Bond villain look and feel to the various locales this is a fantastic addition to the series and a welcome return to form following X-Men 3 and more ...
One of the best comic book movies of recent times - MicklesMeBefore going to see this movie, I heard many things. I heard it was better then The Dark Knight, I also heard it was so good that it could start a franchise as big as Star Wars. Both of these (as a comic book and star wars nerd) sounded like words of a mad mad to me. But did it live up to the hype? Did Vaughn play a blinder? The story is about how X-men more ...
Summary - markwalshPrequels are never easy - most of your audience knows the general gist of what's going to happen, whilst whoever's in the other part obviously haven't bothered familiarising themselves with any of the previous material (in this case: a comic strip, 4 films and several TV spin-offs) so can't be too pushed about the entire enterprise. Unfortunately director more ...
First Class starts off as its own movie but slowly turns into the studios want of a prequel, by the end, it's reeking of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Although Vaughn does a very good job of reviving the X-Men series, his dreams of a “more epic†sequel are dashed by his ending to this one. Though, you never know. - HanleyThis film had such high precedents. A superhero movie in a James Bond era with Matthew Vaughn of 'Kick Ass' fame directing and X1 & 2 director Bryan Singer producing. Three words spring to mind: Here we go. The majority of the movie takes place in 1962 with Charles Xavier (James MacAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) joining forces to recruit more ...
Much better than expected - Eoghan BolgerX-men first class Directed by Matthew Vaughan and starring Kevin Bacon and James McAvoy, this superhero action film that focuses on the early days/career of the X-mens lead Charles Xavier, the plot sees Xavier caught up in cold war tensions between American and Russia during the early 60s. The film is two and a half hours long. Now this is more like it. more ...
