shocking and in your face! - paula galvinYou cannot escape the realism of this film;there are no soft touches or angles or people. They are hard, with a capital H .This family spells dysfunction without the "funk" The film takes place on a high rise ,low rent, low morals ,low self-esteem estate in Essex. It tells the story of Mia,a foul-mouthed,aggressive,bullying girl who loves to dance and more ...
Brilliant Pic with simply Outstanding Performances - Jason O' MahonyFISH TANK Director: Andrea Arnold Country: UK Year: 2009 Language: English Runtime: 123 Minutes Rating: 16 FISH TANK is driven by a simple little idea. The star of the picture is Mia, a fifteen year old girl, whose life is turned upside down when her Mom brings home a new boyfriend. Great, bad then great again - Mick JordanThere are no frills or niceties to 'Fish Tank'. It is deliberately as raw and in your face as the characters it portrays. It's almost entirely a non-professional cast who are probably 'Playing themselves'. (Katie Irving certainly is, she got the part after being spotted having a screaming row with her boy-friend on a Railway platform.) The dialogue is more ...

- bunny starThe Dutch producer of the Cook the Thief his Wife and Her Lover, Kees Kassander shows that he still has an eye for the cutting edge of British Arthouse, and director Andrea Arnold proves that she was more than a one trick pony. There is a superb performance from Katie Jarvis playing 15 year old Mia in a dysfunctional single parent family with a drunk mother more ...
A Good Film but can be depressing - jennithGrim and at times unsettling, 'Fish Tank' has attitude in abundance. It's thought-provoking and a bit too real for comfort. Mia (Jarvis) has a sharp tongue, a fighting spirit and a will that can't be harnessed. She'd be serious trouble except in her world all of these attributes are just survival instincts. You lash out and people know not to mess with you. more ...

Remarkable - old_no7Winner of this year's Jury Prize at Cannes, Fish Tank is an unnerving glimpse into the world of Mia, a 15 year old girl living with her uncaring Mother and foul mouthed younger sister in a dreary tenement on the outskirts of London. Director Andrea Arnold, 2006s Red Road, delivers another powerhouse with scenes that burn into your mind and will have you more ...
