Metro 2033 is a post apocalyptic game set in Russia and Eastern Europe. The game revolves around Artyom as he navigates his way around the metro stations, underground networks and nuclear wasteland in effort to combat a mutant threat to humanity. Basically this is a first person shooter with an elaborate plot, slower pacing and a dash of horror.

There's lots to enjoy about Metro 2033. It's tremendously atmospheric and the music and in-game conversations really stand out. There's lots of memorable characters to interact with, the dark underground tunnels are creepy and the metro stations well imagined. The plot unfolds nicely and the premise is relatively original too; how many games today have the Russians as heroes?

However, the animations are a little stiff and the AI is patchy. In certain places the game hand holds the player (ie you can go here but not there) and there-in lies the real problem. It's hard to play this kind of survival horror game without comparing it to Fallout 3 and unfortunately Metro 2033 comes off as the shallower experience.
