Warner Bros. announced a while back that they were bringing a new version of the classic yarn The Three Musketeers, to the big screen once more, and were hunting for a director. Well, it seems they've gotten a belter of a helmer, as Doug Liman is in advanced negotiations to direct.

Liman started out directing the best independent film of the past twenty years (yeah, i said it) Swingers, before moving on to the hugely enjoyable Go, and then giving the action genre a swift kick up the hole by helming The Bourne Identity. Not only was it seminal in its execution, it made Matt Damon a star all over again. He followed up Bourne with Mr and Mrs Smith; a fun action film that was notable for its behind the scenes shenanigans, and then had his first real disappointment with Jumper. The man knows how to assemble an action sequence, and his background is in character driven indie cinema, so there's no reason The Three Musketeers shouldn't be a lot of fun.

Summit Entertainment are developing on their version of the famous tale with internet whipping boy, Paul WS Anderson slated to call the shots.
