David Fincher has approached the upper brass at Disney with a proposal for a $150 million retelling of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

The film had previously been mooted with Terminator Salvation helmer McG calling the shots, but when Disney came under new management, the plug was plugged as it was thought far too risky a picture. Fincher then brought his take to them along with The Informant! writer Scott Z Burns, and both men are now in negotiations with the studio for what Fincher calls a "four-quadrant tentpole movie."

It shows the power that Fincher has, when he can essentially resurrect a dead production by announcing he wants to helm a new version. It’s thought he would direct the English language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo first as planned, and then launch into the ‘Leagues’ production, which is described as "Star Wars style epic."David Fincher making any kind of film, on any kind of scale, is reason enough to be excited; but this could be pretty special.
