A Pure Football match apparently does away with the crowds and the rules. At least that's according to Ubisoft's latest release which has been endorsed by Steven Gerard. From the opening sequence the title pitches itself as how teams would really compete against each other away from the prying eyes of their fans and match officials. In other words say goodbye to referees, off sides and free kicks; is this how Liverpool's captain would feels his matches really should be played?

Players can choose from 17 teams and 230 players and take part in 1v1 matches online and 4v4 offline. There's a relatively easy to use control system which revolves around gauging metres and pressing buttons at a certain point. Another nice part of the game is the way it slows down - alá bullet time - when players make a perfect shot. However, Pure Football just doesn't sound fun. The lack of crowd means no chants during the matches or cheers when players score a goal. Think of this release as an arcade game that can be picked up and played for an hour or two rather than a layered title worth investing time in.
